Acht Wochen ohne Dunkelheit - Die Geschichte

Eight weeks without darkness - The story

Sometimes it isn’t easy to say, how one came his way. Especially when this way is a 9000km long, a caravan is steadily bouncing on the back of one’s car and when the roads are steep und winded. In our case we made the whole way from Switzerland to Norway and back, because of some bouldering videos, promising us beautiful lines...

Matre - Ticino in Norway

Looks like Ticino, climbs like Ticino, feels like Ticino. At least - almost. The big difference is: You are all alone. And there is a lot of stuff to brush. Some impressions from "Karate Kid", 8A (in the woods), "Luftwaffe", project (red shirt) and the freshly brushed but unsent "Bergen High" (small crimps).

Matre - Landscape

The first confrontation to the typical swamp vegetation and up on the plateau as well to the typical fjell ambience.

Harbak - Where the land dives smoothly into the sea

The red granite of Harbak weighs only the half of the one we know from the Alps. But it will nevertheless be impossible to carry away these boulders. Despite the fact that they were a nationwide highlight in central Europe. Perfect shaping, richly featured and in a truly picturesque setting, they will always stay where they are...

Harbak - Landscape

For everybody who still doesn't know which plant is the so called cotton grass. Its importance in Harbak is especially emphasised by the steady back light. Actually the hole swamp, where the boulders lay in, is a kind of back light theatre.

Vingsand - Chalked caves and unbrushed boulders

No topo will guide you and you're eyes they will deceive you, 'cause the lines aren't on boulders. They are hidden in caves. The rock on both is outstanding but the caves are darker and the lines are easier to link. Perhaps is for that reason that the locals hide away in the shades.

Vingsand - Landscape

The best rock on the trip but not the most spectacular scenery. But Norway is always capable to come up with a nice shower or two. And then even Vingsand looks kind of spectacular.

Straumen - Blueberries, fish and just the best lines brushed

Ever searched this type of granite full of jugs? Here it is. And uniquely in perfect conditions, as there is no need to open not that perfect lines. It's the land of plenty, including blueberries and fish.

Straumen - Landscapes

Deep forests and an open lake below a glacial polish. A lake that hid a lot in shades of grey but sometimes shone up.

Gjerdalen - The Magic Valley, no need to say more

Far up in the north we finally found our perfect boulder spot: Beautiful scenery, lonesome rocks on glacial polish and the best lines of our lives.

Gjerdalen - Landscapes

Sometimes it is not the boulders in first place that make you stay as long as possible. Sometimes it is just the world surrounding you.

Steigen - A kind of picturesque stopover near Gjerdalen

After Gjerdalen it was hard to imagine that we would find something as beautiful as this. Thanks to the right light, we found something perhaps even more beautiful. The peninsula of Steigen.

Lofoten - Back to normality

Traces of Chalk and real boulderers again! And some nice pieces of rock. Just beside the road...

Lofoten - Landscapes

The best known of our destinations and a really impressive one, too. But less wild then the latter ones. This meant enjoying tourism on the last week of the trip.
